Clean out the soul...Clean out the music

Music is one of those things that you just can't escape from. You have to admit that it is nearly everywhere that you go, wheather you are aware of it or not.
The way those little notes work have the power to filter through our emotions and change the way we are feeling, right in that very second. Old school pop, to hardcore techno to the free-flow of rap.
The beat can over come us, flowing right into our blood and then escaping out of our body again through dance in a matter of seconds.
As Micheal Jackson once said "To live is to be musical, starting with the blood dancing in your veins. Everything living has a rhythm. Do you feel your music?"

As we go through different stages in our lives and different experiences, we listen and associate with different music, as that is how connected we feel to that beat and those words at that time.
But as we move on from these certain stages and experiences, it can be important to let go of those beats. Clearing out your iPod can be the best cleanses that you can carry out on yourself. And here is how...

  1. If it has not been listened to in 6-12 months then DELETE.
It is that song that you imeidiatly change if it comes up on shuffle. You know the one that you get embarrassed about if anyone is scrolling through your playlist? This little guy has to go. There is the exception of the "Oh remember this song" moment, where you and your friends laugh and sing aloud because it brings back a good memory, but do not be fooled! This little old badger is not one of those.

  1. The " I'm so alone" song
So after that horrible break up that left you devastated, the one that made you reside to your bedroom only to stare blankly out the window, eating ice-cream while repeatedly listening to Lana Del Ray 'Dark Paradise'. But it has now been a good few months since that heartache place you were in, and this (and similar little buggers) are still taking up room on your iPod, and there for still reminding you of that horrible time.
DELETE. There is nothing worse than you being in a great mood and this sad song suddenly thumping through your earphones to make you want to curl up on the path right there and then and start weeping. Gather all these slow hearted depressing songs and press the delete button.
  • The "Couple" song
Briefly while we are on the subject of songs of past relationships, lets cover this one quite quickly so we can pretend that this step was already taken by yourself before I mentioned it.
That song that you and your old other half used used to call  "your" song....that needs to go.....delete it off  your musical dukebox and then even go as far as going into your recycling bin and deleting it from there, never to return to it until you are in the old folks home looking through all your memories.
Glad that little one got cleared up
  • Have upbeat playlist's made
Collaborate your favorite songs all into one playlist so that they are always bundled together. You can have a playlist for when you are going to the gym, road trip songs, music for when you are getting ready to go out to a party, or just lazy sunny summer tunes for chilling out the back garden to. Whatever types of situations you find yourself in with your iPod and life, group the music together.
  • Hit the Hot 100
So I take it after that after deleting all of the old soppy songs, the songs you never listen to and the songs you have never will listen to that there is about 10 decent jams left on your iPod. This is when you hit up You tube, Billboard, the I tunes store, or any other places that will have the latest and greatest music. Discover new songs and artists that you like, and find those feel good beats that you know will make you smile every time you hit play. There is no greater feeling than turning around to your friends and introducing them to the next summer hit before they have heard it.
  • Find your 'Monday' song
This little beauty may be hard to come by, but when you find your unique Monday song and put it on the iPod, you know its a guarantee smiler. The thing about the Monday song, is that it only really should be played on Monday's. Even when you are really sad and need cheering up, you should have dedicated other songs on a playlist as a perk up. The Monday song is the 'pick me up' in the morning song and have you zooming into the week ready for anything.

  • Be ruthless with the music
If you really want a good clean out, then starting with your music is one of the best places to begin. A long this clean out you could find songs that you fall in love with all over again or you could find songs that you cringe you ever had play through the headphones. Whatever it is, don't be to kind about it. If you really do not think you will listen to it again, then get rid of it and replace it with something new, better and upbeat.
